Hi Guys

Why oh why do we have 5 variants for the Badger?
Why don't we just use the LCT30 ATGW turrent with is also built by DLS?
That would save the Army some money instead of having a dedicated antitank variant.
With the LCT30 ATGW turrent you can have 30mm guns and the ZT3 Ingwe on the same vehicle.

Hi Werner..My brother helped design the turret version for the Ingwe. Why its called the Munro design,This is his answers to your questions.

His answers
All have specific functions on the battlefield. The mortar variant used for indirect fire eg. Firing over hills or mountains. Missiles for anti tank and accurate fire up to 4km. One doing all functions makes turret to crowed and complicated.

Our 30mm also takes 8 troops in the back if it had missiles also there will be no space for troops. Its primarily a troop transporting APC. The missile variant can carry 12 missiles at the back.A combination turret will be prone to problem's and complicated for our troops to manage and operate.

Are there any in actual service yet? They seem to be taking an age to come online and will only be replacing a fraction of the Ratels in any case.

As far as I know they all still test units on the roads, they need to complete the turret integration program first. Then training on the various turrets and systems, only driving training being done.

Hi Adrian

Thanks dude.

But it is weird because Denel sold the combination turret LCT30 ATGW to Malaysia for there APC's.
We could of used the same turret for our own tank killing variant.
Because know you need a ATGW and a 30mm variant deployed together to do fire support.

Quote:
“Problems” with Badger – SA Army Chief

SA Army boss, Lieutenant General Lindile Yam, this week acknowledged there are “problems” with Badger, the new infantry fighting vehicle that will replace the ageing Ratel.

“There are serious delays,” he told a media briefing in Thaba Tshwane this week without elaborating. He added those responsible for acquisition in the landward force “are working with Denel (presumably Denel Land Systems) in search of a solution”.

Yam’s admission comes just on four weeks after Denel Group chief financial officer, Odwa Mhlwana, said “major programmes (at the State-owned defence and technology conglomerate) are behind schedule”. He was speaking at Denel’s presentation of its financial results for the current financial year.

This means the landward force cannot look forward to receiving the first 88 of 242 Badgers in May 2019 as stated by DLS chief executive, Stephan Burger, in June.

Burger said at the time 15 Badgers have been produced and technology transfer from Finland to South Africa as part of Project Hoefyster was complete. The first eight Badger turrets are being assembled with four in an advanced stage of assembly by DLS. The plan for the current financial year is to produce 59 turrets and deliver 20 completed systems. Delivery of all 242 Badgers is set to conclude in 2022.

Yam’s comment this week has put a question mark over delivery of the first 20 units. The three star general did not elaborate on problems with any specific variants of the Infantry Formation’s new fighting vehicle.

The variants are: section with 30 mm CamGun; Mortar with a 60 mm, six km locally developed range breech-loading mortar; fire support with 30 mm CamGun; anti-tank with Ingwe missiles and Command enabling Command and Control at company level.
