Here some photos and videos of the Night Shoot. They aren't the best since I couldn't get a good spot, I'm not the best at night photography and I was quite interested to 'enjoy the experiance' instead of viewing it all through a camera.

Initially I thought it was going to be like the Navy Festival and all we would get would be some 20mm & .50 cal action. I was certainly caught by surprise when I went to their drills in the afternoon and the launch some rockets from the Bateleur!

I can't imagine any where else in the world you would have something like this happening in the middle of a country's 3rd largest city?!

Indeed it was, the Rooikat & Olifant were probably the most impressive of your regular joes (Bateleur took the cake really). They were much louder than even the G5 and was very impressed at how quickly they were able to reload. They also tended to fire together which was quite something, the videos don't do the level of noise they create justice.

Wow. Top coverage.

In the first video more or less centre screen, mid video. That thing packs a punch! Which one is it thats firing?

Definitely far better night shoot!

Also, the mechanical parade yesterday was very big. Significantly bigger than last year.

Nice pics and videos. That 35mm is impressive. That'll clear the early morning traffic jam very nicely 8) . I guess they were firing towards the sea. If so, wonder what the ship crews must have thought

The Spioenkop cleared them all well away, but it still must have been interesting seeing it from their perspective. Heck, my mom could hear the firing 20km away!
