My Grandfather spoke of this. He explained that to land on ice you had to keep your feet together otherwise you can get a groin injury. (If you split)
He served in North Africa and Italy.
He said that he volunteered for something but lied about not having spouse.
His service record states that he was in 1SSB, 6 SAAD, Cape Highlanders and in the SAAF.
I never could get proof of the para trooping in his record, only hints in his stories.
