Once again the word "defence" is not uttered at all by the finance minister.
Hopefully there is something in the actual budget statement documents, are they available online yet?

Ii have found the DOD's share of the Adjusted Estimates of National Expenditure - http://www.treasury.gov.za/documents/mt ... terans.pdf
Read it and be afraid, be very afraid, the adjustments are almost all from capital and operational to human resources.
The SAAF gets a R9.716 million increase for "Air Defence. No increases for transport, maritime, etc.
The Army gets R15.929 million increase for the Infantry.
The Navy and Health Service get no increase at all.

If one looks at the allocation for Defense in the Medium Term Budget 2014, is is clear that no provision was made at all for anything asked for in the Defense Review. The Defense Budget is projected to only grow at roughly 5.5% per year over the next three years, which is of course less than inflation, so it amounts to a cut in real terms.

I think everybody understands that the country is in a difficult position financially. But what is the point of having a Defense Review(that cost R13 million I might add) if you are just going to ignore its findings?

Or can we hope to see some increase in the main budget in February next year after Parliament has debated the Defense Review?

As far as Finance is concerned the Defence Review does not exist - until it has been taken up into actual Defence Policy.
The Parliamentary Joint Standing Committee on Defence needs to sit the f##k down and start writing the White Paper!
