Has anyone bought and viewed this series? I am looking for it but apparently the supplier is "out of stock". I've found some on BidorBuy but I don't live in SA anymore so isn't really any use to me.

If anyone can tell me what this series is like (I understand it screened on KykNET?) and perhaps point me in the direction of a vendor I'd be most grateful. :)

I bought the set some moons ago .. watched some of the episodes .. was pretty disapointed with it though, didn't find it enjoyable & ended up giving it away

I could live with some of the sound recording funnies, but wrong footage used to portray certain events & repetitive footage used, just got my goose. It was obviously made for Joe public who has no clue with regard to historical accuracy.

My 2c.

I was going to ask how you coped with the howling factual errors - most of which could have been eliminated with a few hours of basic research - but it seems very few people are really concerned with facts much these days - allowing TV programs full of inaccurate reportage to shape their views. Very few ever go back to decent research material to verify or negate the statements made. It's really a sad state when one actually discusses things with one of these TV armchair historians and one cannot budge them because they saw it on TV - and TV would never lie to them, would it?

Good news ... both the English and Afrikaans versions of Bush War / Grensoorlog are now available at The Airforce Shop: http://www.saairforce.co.za/shop/index.php?cPath=31

Hmm, pity I didn't read Brent's comments before I purchased it. Oh well, haven't had a chance to watch it yet as only arrived back in NZ this morning.

I found the Grensoorlog DVD very informative..just some places the sound recording is not so good in the interviews with some ex military guys..the Koevoet part I found to be very interesting..as well as the Recce's..I would recommend it if you enjoy documentaries.Just some of the footage is repeated.. which could irritate you a bit

I just spent a typically rainy Sunday afternoon watching Vol 1 of the series and can say that I found it very interesting. As one said, the audio quality in the interviews is quite bad but apart from that I found it to be quite informative.

The English version, "Bush War" is currently on DSTV channel 107 "Mzansi Magic". I found it purely by chance, just saw Episode 2.

The piece I saw, I was constantly thinking: "How about telling me something I don't know!".
But it was only episode 2, mostly "setting the scene" with background info and generalities on the state of the Cold War, the "totale aanslag" doctrine, troepies telling about sleeping outside in the cold, Swapos going to Russia for training tellling about learning the table manners of their hosts, etc. So this episode was rather light on specific historical detail.

My thoughts were the same as H1017412 after having seen this thread after my purchase, but I'm glad that I did get them. Vol.1 didn't really grab me but I throughly enjoyed Vol.2.

Sure, it could have been better but I think that it is still worth having.

My 2 Cents worth

Ja, like RtD said, the first bits were a bit hard going initially - the bit about SWAPO and their table manners was amusing though. The main thing for me is the archival footage and the interviews that they held with Jan, Jannie, Constand, Pik, the Soviets and the other Vets.
