coppied from my avco post

This morning I passed about 5 SANDF tank carriers each with an Olifant (Mk2 I assumed) on towards BFN I think. Just near Beyres Naude.

Not so strange but when I passed the front on I though # 2 is awfully close to #1 trailer only to see that the lead truck was towing #2 !
MY word these trucks have to be extremely strong, each tank must weigh 50 odd tonnes, each hauler mus be atleast 15 or more tonnes so the front one was haulling min 130 tonnes or there about.
Those of you knowing the western bypass will know some of the long and sometimes steep slopes near william nicol and then the down part o n the other side.

I am rather suitably impressed with these haulers and the lead driver =D> Not everything of the SANDF is doom and gloom

The tank's tracks were all full of mud so they must have been comming from an exersize maybe.

Nice spot, would never have thought one tank hauler would tow another!

Guess they were coming from the Armed Forces Day activities in Polokwane.

Maybe.
I wanted to take a pic but road was to busy. I am still amazed how they did it, the up hill is bad enough but the downhill can be just as tricky and the towbar was what looked like 100-150mm square tube, just imagine the carnage if the lead truck had brake issues from witkoppen to the dome on that long down hill

I couldnt really look at the turrets but I ssume them to be Mk2? Interestingly 2 tanks were in the camo scheme and the others were brown.
