I am trying to take as many photos as I can. The action is relentless and the event is vast and diverse.

The one problem I am struggling a bit is soft images...?

I think its caused by a combination of humidity, heat haze and using a telephoto lens. The weather is excellent but its very hot and humid, I am shooting using the same settings as a I would at our local shows. The difference though is that Gauteng airshows are in winter at 2000 m above sea level.

I am shooting up to 2500th of a second, so I don't think its motion blur.

could it be humidity?

Very possible that the humidity and hot air 'thermals' are causing the softness. Are you using a UV filter?

I have a uv filter fitted.

A suggestion has also been to get a polariser filter. But unfortunately won't be able to get one in time.

Been looking at allot of videos too,yes seem like very bad heat haze and bad light combination, not ideal for clear images, please send more pics when you can, thank you so much for sharing with us.

I hope you don't mind if I add to your thread Mars? Seems a better idea to consolidate rather than start a new thread. Let me know if you don't agree [-o<

I spent 4 days camping on the other side of the airbase so got a few pics from a slightly different perspective. @Airfire, you are right - terrible haze most of the time but early on and toward the end of each day, conditions were better.

Anyway, first time out with a decent lens which I found quite hard to get used to. Nevertheless, I got some ok snaps. Still going through them so will add as I do.
