Ja well no fine .... :)

Gate guardian, Avro Vulcan XM607 is still undergoing some fuselage restoration, although it was recently towed out of the hangar, and parked next to RAF Boeing RC-135 Signals Intelligence aircraft, at RAF Waddington.
Quote:
[Falklands War 1982]

Vulcan XM607 was the aircraft that dropped twenty-one 1,000lb bombs on Port Stanley Airport, which the Argentinian invaders needed as a base from where their fighter jets could attack the British Fleet.

Just one of the bombs scored a direct hit on the main runway during the surprise attack on the morning of May 1, 1982, but it was enough to temporality put the airstrip out of action. The daring mission was the first of the seven raids of Operation Black Buck - planned at RAF Waddington - the then longest ever bombing missions in history. A single Vulcan would be supported by several Victor tanker aircraft that relayed fuel in mid-air, between each other, and the bomber.

The Vulcan bombers had to fly 3,900 miles from their base on Ascension Island to the Falkland Islands and the same distance on the way back, a return journey of 16 hours.

Are the Red Arrows - the RAF Aerobatic Team - about to disband and consigned to history? Quite possible.

Scandal upon scandal, over the past two years, has mired and compromised their very existence. Drinking and womanizing, yes all those usual bugbears and bedfellows, have taken their toll. The latest casualty of this sorry saga is the Officer Commanding, Wing Commander (Lt Col) David Montenegro, who was sent home whilst on the current Red Arrows tour of the Middle East. Already two former members have been removed and disciplined in the recent past, hence the team currently only displays with six, instead of the usual nine, aircraft.

One of many media reports:-

Refuelling Finland Air Force F/A-18C Hornets, this particular RAF Airbus A330 MRTT (Multi Role Tanker Transport) in its secondary role, when not needed for VIP transport. ZK336 is often used by the British Prime Minister on official visits abroad, hence the colourful graphics, alternatively as a tanker.
This recent picture was taken over the Gulf of Finland, showing the increasingly close co-operation between NATO members and the Finnish Air Force (soon to be a NATO member too). Picture Credit British MoD

Finland has 64 Lockheed Martin F-35A aircraft on order - deliveries from 2025 onward. (Wiki)

Firstly:- thank you Dean and Roulof for your comments above! :smt023

Secondly:- Cobra Warrior 2023-1, the first of two 'Fighter Meets' hosted by the RAF this year, is scheduled for three weeks in March. Reliable rumours :) thus far has it that the participants are as follows -

- RSaudiAF (Saudi) Typhoon
- Blu (Belgium) F-16
- FinAF (Finland) F-18
- TurkAF (Turkey) F-16 (Cancelled)
- IndianAF (India) ??
- RAF

- Tanker support for Saudi, Indian and Turkish participants.

Things can and do change. How many aircraft from each participant will be known nearer the dates.
The following graphic is doing the rounds on social media.

Update 23 Feb: Turkish Air Force cancelled their participation for reasons unknown.
Update 26 Feb: Indian Air Force ... wait and see ... ??

For those watching geopolitical developments closely it's quite obvious. It's possible the Saudi's might pull out as well, as they posture to join BRICS.

Don't open your carton of expired fizz yet, in celebration of your anti-Cobra Warrior stance.

The UK's biggest selling aviation magazine has the following article, dated 24 Feb 2023, compiled by its Editor, under BREAKING NEWS:-

"Information released from the RAF regarding Exercise Cobra Warrior has confirmed that the Belgian Defence – Air Component, Finnish Air Force, Royal Saudi Air Force, and Indian Air Force are taking part in Exercise Cobra Warrior".

I will wait and see what turns up, patience is a virtue ... :!:

Well, after recent controversies, the RAF Aerobatic Team seem to have survived the storm. They will fly an eight ship display for the 2023 season, and work up to the usual nine ship for 2024. The link below is a short very informative 3 minute talk by their OC, Wing Commander Adam Collins.

Many of you will be aware of the closure of RAF Scampton, England. It was home to 617 Squadron RAF "The Dam Busters" during WW2 and more recently The Red Arrows. The Reds are now based at RAF Waddington. The former RAF Scampton, a large piece of real estate, has been designated as a future site for housing, the 'housing' for whom is not certain .... there is much ongoing debate. The closure of the base caused much acrimony and unhappiness in various sectors of society.

Former RAF Scampton had all kinds of interesting things, amongst others these four aircraft, now parked and covered at one end of the runway. Their future - I don't know.
- McDonnell Douglas F-4F (ex Luftwaffe)
- Sukhoi Su-22M4 (ex Luftwaffe, ex former East Germany)
- Blackburn Buccaneer S.2B
- Hawker Hunter T.8 trainer

Pity the Hunter is not protected, but good to see the other aircraft covered.
