Hi to all,

as already posted here (http://www.saairforce.co.za/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2760&p=112329#p112329) I am currently planning the build-up of a 1:10 foamy Spitfire from Durafly.
Not a big deal in terms of modelling, but I want to re-paint and weather it as realistic as possible.
As already noted in the profiles thread, I want to re-paint as AX-N ER874 "CireCooks V".

These days I pimp the cockpit, for this I want to use a 1:10 latex pilot that I painted a few weeks ago already before deciding which plane I want to re-build. At these days I decided to paint it in typicl RAF livery, as shown in the pic.

Can you please tell me if the blue jacket is something that a SAAF fighter pilot in 1943 was also wearing? Or was it something more like brown or green?
I wasn't able to find out for sure when doing the research on the web.
If I have to change I will re-paint, of course.

A summer outfit would be much more fitting but unfortunately you have to take what's available on pilot figures out there if you don't want to build one completely for your own. But as you said, there were also cold periods/mornings/evenings in the African theatre, therefore not a no-go to have the guy dressed in jacket.

As on your "winter" image the jacket seems to be of dark colour, maybe a brown tone?
Would fit to the colour image you can see here (although you can never be sure about the colours on ww2 photographs when the scenes seems to be faked or they were re-coloured afterwards):

I would trust the IWM to get the colours right. They surely have numerous original uniform and flying kit items in their collections.

Hi to all,

decided to go with the uniform colour of the IWM image.
More or less finished the cockpit inside now, some smaller bits & pieces to be painted still as well as the outside canopy frames.

It's always a question of doing enough but not doing too much for watching the weight not to go up too far.
