Talented and good looking :smt023

Silly question, what kind of power unit do you use for something like this?

Nope Dean, just tied it up as that was house moving day four...

Ja, it's a glider, or Power Scale Soarer, finished weight will be around 3kg, it's just over 1.2kg in the last pic. I'll put a hand hold in the bottom of the fus to toss it and have also got a bungee hook in the nose.

Dire threats have been issued should video material of it flying not be forthcoming!

Nothing exciting to post, just been glassing. I should have it finished this evening.

Bottom half being laid up ready to PolyC.

Image

Top half I'm doing in sections, just too many tight curves to use a single piece,

Not exciting to you, but interesting to some of us, who don't know.

Posted this elsewhere, but not had a reply yet,

I'm doing my Bucc in the 'delivery' scheme:

Questions are:

- Is it a gloss or matt paint job on the real thing? This model has been done gloss, but I'm not sure this is correct?

The delivery scheme was gloss ...

From “A portrait of Military Aviation in Southern Africa" by Ron Belling:

Quote:
Hawker-Siddeley Buccaneer S50
On delivery the Buccaneers were finished with gloss Dark Sea Grey (BSC638) upper surfaces and PRU Blue (BSC636) undersides. There was a matt Black anti-glare panel and area under the rear fuselage, and Castle insignia were worn forward of the intakes, and the 24 Squadron crest on the sides. Up to the mainplane and intakes the leading edges were left natural metal, while the fibreglass nose radome was painted with a yellow gold colour. Upper and lower wings were devoid of insignia and serial numbers. The serial number was in black. At a later stage the gloss finish was replaced by matt, and the radome, anti-glare panel and fin flashes overpainted to match the overall scheme, while the size of the Castle insignia was reduced.

Here's 417 on the delivery flight.

Thanks Brent!

Hmmm, upper and lower devoid of insignia?

Was this added after then?

I've been busy on the Bucc...

Finally got the nose and tail carved, filled and glassed.

Then once that was PolyC'd a few times, primer (I'd gotten impatient earlier and primed the fus already by then).

I went over the flying and control surfaces and filled in a few dings that remained.

Image

I started with painting today too. I went to the local B&Q and bought tester pots which I've brushed on. The blue is done and  the grey topside is drying at the moment.

Image

And here's the fus fully primes awaiting final filler before painting!

So far, there has been a 30% increase in weight, so it looks like this thing'll finish up at about 4lbs

Once primed, the panelling errors came to light. There is a bit of 'oil canning' in a few places, but I'm not too bothered. The next model I'll try using planking instead to get a smoother flow of the fus contours.
