Seeing as it's Tomcat fever, thought I'd post my latest :)

This is scratch built from a 3 view as a free flight catapult launch glider. I'm prolly going to go with VF-103 'Final Tomcat Cruise' scheme.

The pics show the 3 view, working out the construction on the drawing and where I'm at with construction. This will have working swing wings actuated by the launch hook with a friction damper so that as I pull the rubber tight to launch, the wings will swing back and then on it's way up and as the speed bleeds off the wings will slowly swing forward again for the glide.

Yup, completely bonkers!

Been adding the string guides and did a quick test :)

The string will run to the launch hook and the rubber band will be replaced by a small spring.

I had that idea some time ago, but you know, crazy people sometimes can be very creative and entertaining.

Very interesting with the swing wing idea, I suspect it will change the C.G. during flight. I hope it works.

It also moves the wing itself though, so the aerodynamic reference points (ie, where the lift happens) move too. I assume that the real thing accounted for this, and if the model is true then it will also benefit from that design!

From what I've read of others that have built similar sized F14's for R/C they need a bit of up trim when the wings are swept or they need to fly real fast to not use up trim. These wings will only be swept during the launch phase, which will be high speed and almost vertical, so I don't think there will be any issues.

All the bits have arrived, so making more progress now. Got the wings sorted, ali tube in tube pivots with nylon bolts keeping it all together. Seems nice and sturdy.

Also got the bottom formers on, so I can start stringering everything up and let it take shape :)

That is going to be one awesome model! Looking forward to seeing it fly. :smt023

How's the model weight looking?

Cheers Dean! So far, up to the pics below, it's just on 40g. I'm aiming at 60g completed.

Hi Hein, I have a collection of many thousand 3 view drawings.

You can go here though: http://www.the-blueprints.com/ and register for free to get access to the downloads. Almost anything you can think of is there.
