So in light of the recent loss of a SAAF Dak, I got to thinking...

Why have a Dak group build in their memory... then I got to further thinking and say... why not a 35Sqn Group build.

Then I thought... why not have regular Squadron level group builds??

Each month a squadron is selected and entrants may build any aircraft the squadron may have flown...

Say 1 Squadron... Spitfires, Hurricanes, F1AZs, Imps, Sabres etc.. Or similar.

So the first GB would be a 35 Squadron build, as a personal tribute to the souls that were lost.

What you all think?

Great idea, Ari. And as a tribute even better.

Now to get me hands on a DC 3 kit. Don't think there's too many of those lying around in SA?

Will check out 35 th history and let you know with what I'll be in with.

Could someone overlay the outlines of a C-47 and the C-47TP, to see what's needed to convert them?

I'm in with a Shack (1722 :D ), Santa(Vlam) is sending me a shack but will only arrive early in new year I suppose ( hey, Gary?)

Ports, instead of a sqd every month, can we maybe extend it to a sqd every 3 to 4 months. That gives us enough time to source the kits and do decent jobs.

(especially yourself that seems to be spending FOREVER on a little Cheetah kit ...   8) ).

If I can lay my hands ona 48th scale Harvard I'll do a Harvard as well ... yes they did operate Harvards between late 1940's and 1952, even some spitties as well.

The C47-TP, fuse is extended by 1 meter forward of the centre section, and of course the engines extend further than on the piston jobs.

There is also the Turbo Dakota conversion from Heritage aviation if you can get hold of it. I see some of the offshore online shops got some left, but the postage is mad

I'm hoping to convert a 1/144 scale model *whistles innocently*

I do recall some wingtip modifications over the standard C-47?

Darn, I am out for the 35 sqn build, but maybe a 16 or17 sqn build for the Allos or 22 for the Wasp or even 12 for the Canberra as a next GB :D

That makes life a bit easier... Still need to redo the engines from scratch though, because that's fun. Still don't know where to extend the fuse though. Anyone have (or can easily create) a diagram showing the modification?
