Hi Wingman,

Thought I had previously mentioned the green colours

Are you doing 7028 in the dayglo scheme or as it's painted now in 3 Sqdn colours?

Geoff

I am painting it in it's current scheme. The dayglo picture in the book was only for referense for the bump at the breech block.

Hi guys,

I decided to build another one for this GB. A 1/72 Airfix Spitfire Mk.I flown by Adolph 'Sailor' Malan, in 1940, during the Battle of Britain.

I'll have to make decals for this one as well.

Take care
Nico

I will be eyeing your spit build, I have been wishing to get this one to go with my BOB Huricaine :D

Just for interest, humbrol 30 seems to be wrong for that BOB sceeme, I used humbrol 116 and it looks closer

Don't you guys just love the new Airfix packaging ? The box art is worthy of framing. They're doing something right ! :D

The origonal picture that was used for the box art for the Buccaneer was up on ebay the other day: £350.00
It is the one where the aircraft is skiming the sea.

I'll check it out. Thanks Theuns.

One thing I dont like about the new Airfix kits are the deep panel lines. Makes the model look die cast!

Hi Chopperpilot - try this - spray the entire aircraft in a coat of Tamiya grey primer - this will fill in the panel lines. Remove primer on balance of model using wet and dry sandpaper. Two or more applications of primer should reduce the depth of the trenches ! :D

Hi Guys & Girls,

Here is a progress shot of my Stuka.
The Airfix plastic is very soft but not too bad at all. This kit still has raised panel lines and rivets but I am enjoying this build.

The huge amout of putty on the spine is my own fault, I messed up a bit there

Pity it has raised panel lines and rivets. I would have thought that by now Airfix have opted for scribed panel lines.
It looks like it should go together very well with little filler.
I like the camo scheme shown earlier in the thread.

Here is where I'm at with my Spitfire. The canopy will be closed with the pilot inside so I didn't add too much detail inside.

Here is the second aircraft of my selection for the group build. An SAAF 5 Squadron Tomahawk IIB as used in North Africa.
The decals that I got were very thin and allow the camo colours to show through very slightly, but none the less it is completed with the exception of the antenna wires from the tail to the wing tips. The canopy has been done so it can be either closed or left open as can be see in some of the pics.
The base is the same base I made for my model of I.D. Smiths Hurricane. A new base will be made for the Tomahawk

Now to try to finish my third selected aircrat - the Mohawk as used by SAAF 4 Squadron in Abysinnia.

Work in progress on my SAAF Mohawk IV. Will be done as a No 4 Squadron in 1941.
