I am little bit busy with finishing small mirage, but I made some small progress yesterday. I finally glued all flaps in place. Such a poor fit in my case...
Also Madmax supplied me with some references and pics of his build.
I am surprised that some of Mirage IIICZ was fitted with RIMS at some stage. There's sensors on nose and also on tailfin, similar to the ones fitted to F1. They appeared on group pics of Mirage III in air superiority and also two tone camouflage. I'll try to scratch these since it's nice detail to kit.
I just have one question and I'm afraid of answer. If there is RIMS sensors, where was fitted chaff dispenser? How does it looks like?

Hi Patrikf

To my knowledge SAAF Mirage III's were not fitted with flare dispensers.

Mirage 805 has a modified ventral fairing, and 800 has the later type.

Mistral will be able to confirm though.

Charles Hugo on facebook shared some pics of Mirage III in Air-superiority scheme. It's obvious, that it has ventral fin moded in same way as Mirage III n.o. 805. It's standart C-type ventral fin with box build around it. It is probably chaff dispenser we are talking about.

Yes, now I have better idea how it looks like.
I am busy with washing smaller Mirage F1, but I hope I'll get to this project soon. :D

Yesterday I had some time. I started scratching flare dispenser on ventral fin. I build it around standart ventral fin same way as it seems on pics.
I will sand down putty today and will probably make top plate. I'm not sure how it looked like so it will be just plate with drilled out holes for flares.

Another progress made today.
I figured out that I am not able to drill holes in line... so I used stretched sprue on flare dispenser to add some details. Not perfect, but good enough for me.
Seat was painted, I used Tamiya panel liners for wash. Pics was taken before flat coat.
I polished clear parts and masked them with ustar kabuki tape. I glued clear parts in place. Tomorrow I will use some Surfacer 500 around some joints.
I also worked on RIMS. On nose, I made plates from aluminum foil, Than drilled out hole in the middle. Sensors are made from stretched and sanded sprue, glued in place. On tail, I cut some piece from spare parts to make base for sensors.
I'm getting closer to surfacer coat

Yesterday I applied surfacer. There's still some work required around air intakes... I will have to repair some rivets mainly on flaps and fill some gaps. It's getting closer to finish, but this will be slowest and hardest part for me.
My GF also decided that I should do Mad Max scheme.
I already have colors on the way and they should arrive today or tomorrow :D God bless Christmas, post is delivering also on Saturday
So here is Mirage in surfacer:

And I also worked on some scratching of JL-100 for my next Mirage... It should be soon ready for casting

After checking, for me, only known pic of Mad Max, I figured out that it was not fitted with RIMS upgrade.
Anyway, I had time to work on Mirage. I repaired most of faults, sprayed surfacer again and also worked on surface preparation.

Today, I had time only for highveld gray. Tomorrow I will continue with PE blue :D I tried to mix a little bit of Madmax mix, but it was too blue for me. So tomorrow on better light I will try to modify his mix..
It's hard to airbrush, when it's winter here and it's only about 8 hours of sunlight.. It seems it's more sunny, down there in Africa

I sprayed today PE blue. It's Madmax mix with more highveld gray and pink and less blue. I also sprayed Tamiya clear gloss in places of decals. I took pics, but on artificial light so colors are not great. Just to show you some progress.
I will apply decals tomorrow (Springbok+squadron sign) and make better pics. I will than cover them with another layer of gloss coat so I can start dusting them with highveld color.
I hope I will not fail in this phase.
