And to you and your family as well Sean. : :smt023
I see Jix still has a couple of C and E/R kits available for anyone who hasn't tackled one of these. Sean, I think we should launch an assault on the Large Scale Planes website with our Mirages in the new year. Way too many F-16s there.....

One of the highlights of this build was the castle decals my son produced for me. Well done Brett!

Talking of decals - Joker also came to the rescue with spares of these, and the advice to paint the small grey panel that NOBODY else notices above the rudder.]

Can I put in an order for some decals please

You mean the panel below the rudder. If so, not true....my RZ has this

You are welcome to try some of them Malcolm, and maybe discover how to get them to float off the backing!

This is the panel I was referring to. See what I mean about nobody noticing - except Joker.

Ok I see which one you mean. I'll bring some decal sheet to you in the new year. Did you print on white decal paper ?

Very nice build Madmax :smt023 =D> =D>

Just a bit of useless info regarding the "Made in Britain" decal sheet.

This sheet and the later Springbok roundel, roundel sheet were researched by Ken Smy and the late Dave Becker.

These were the most accurate decal sheets available and still are to me.
There was a "bad" batch of decals at a stage where the white border was a bit off centre.

The Springbok Castle sheet has changed a few times, the original sheet had "SA Air Force / SA Lugmag" titles on it. Unfortunately at that stage there weren't many Merlin or Skymaster models to build!

Ken Smy is a historical aviation researcher and is still very active at the SAAF Museum.

I recently used the 66' Springbok Castle decal for the basis of artwork used with the re-painting of Harvard 7643.

On a different angle. Between Madmax and Mistral, there have been four 1:32 Mirage builds. To my knowledge this is the first time on this forum such extensive research has been done and effort put in for a single SAAF type as much as on these builds.

My suggestion is that all the posts should be combined into a single reference article, something to the effect "Building SAAF Mirage III's". We have already lost photos thanks to the Photobucket fiasco, this could happen again.

Certainly if I ever get around to building the Mirage III regardless of the kit this is were my research would start.

I agree. Sean and I have taken a multitude of detail pics of the Swartkop and Jhb Military Museum Mirages. Would be good to have these embedded in Dean's reference section for posterity. Maybe Dean can guide us on how to get this done with. But still waiting for Piet's definitive record of the Mirage III in SAAF service

Just back from leave, so please excuse the delayed response.

Geoff, Theuns, MARS, John and Keeto, thank you for the kind comments!

Regarding MARS's thoughts on the research, I would also like to add that the issue will probably be resolved as soon as Piet van Schalkwyk publishes his book on the Mirage III in SAAF service. I know he still faces some challenges, but I am sure it will be a highly sought after work.

Time to sneak across the fence again to "Rest of World Builds". See you there.
