My next build will be a Revell 1/72 C-54 Skymaster, representing a DC-4-1009 - SAAF Serial 6901, better known as the 'SPOOK' ('Ghost') which was operated as an Electronic Warfare aircraft with her sister '6906' by 44 Squadron.

The kit contains 352 light grey parts, the length is 40,1cm and wingspan is 49,7cm.

6901's construction number was 42934 and started her flying life with the US Air Force.

very cool, I flew with 44 allot when I was at "moves" at Swkps during '90.
I highly doubt I will be able to jump into the front carco bay as easy as when I was 19

I can still recall the "safety ryme" the loady had to say (and show) the engineer
6 chocks, 2 locks, 1 pin (refering to the undercart locks being removed) 1 pole.

My brother was an operator on the EW DC-4 before he got into flight school. :D

Mmm...
Any reference pictures available, I am especially looking fior the antenna layout on 6901? At this stage it will be recalled form emeory, which may have some errors, as it needs to be recalled about 30 years back...

Both were highly sensitive birds, I have recently seen one or two photos, that have been able to jolt the memory, so will get it figured out, bar an antenna here and there. Get it as close as possible though.

I have been told by a DC-4 driver who also builds models that the nose come on the Revell kit is incorrect and not what the SAAF aircraft had on their DC-4's.

He used a DC-6 nose cone on his model.

Thanks Geoff. Will look and see. Maybe there is a DC6 aftermarket nose. Alternately I may try some artistic interpretation. Will troll the wwe a bit and do some research.

Well, the kit's interior is fairly detailed and elaborate, one needs to decide early enough how much you are going to do and how the kit is to be displayed, I think it will make an awesome 'see through' display. The Ghost had blacked out windows so I'll not be building the interior except for the cockpit's basic elements. It is just not worth the effort then to hide everything.

Cockpit fitted, then I needed to trim a bit of the Instrument Panel.... to make fuselage halves fit.
