Does anyone have any decent photos showing the SAAF C-47's when they were in the colour scheme shown in the attached photo. Looking for info or pics of above the aircraft, under the aircraft, etc.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I am going to be doing a Revell 1/48 C-47 in this scheme.

From what I have on my (limited) bookshelf it seems this scheme was unique, only 6853 ever had it.

As far as I know 6853 was the only one to carry the red cross marking, but others (in the 1960's) in 44 Squadron carried the colour scheme minus the red cross marking.
Unfortunately the only view in the two photo in the SAAF Squadrons book are from the side.
In the Squadron Histories thread on the forum there is a photo of a line up of the 44 Sqn C-47's with the colour scheme, but unfortunately it is not a very clear picture: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5095&p=53721&hilit=Squadron+histories#p53721

Not of any help to you but I recall seeing Dak in 44's hanger during '90 and it was standard camo but had red cross markings inplace of the castles.

The dayglo was commonly used on training aircraft so a look into the history of 86 MEFS might be useful.

vulcanxm607,

What scheme are you referring to?
Ambulance?
VIP?
Transport?

There were 3 basic silver / Int orange schemes.

Besides the earlier / later schemes.

I'll try help where I can.

Geoff

Geoff.

I would prefer the Ambulance version, but if this is not possible then either the VIP or Transport.
The colour scheme I am interested in is the Sliver/Int Orange.

Thanks
Phil

Here are some photos of my WIP on the C-47 '6853'.
Paints used for the white and silver are automobile spray tins Mercedes Polar White and Audi Silver. The red orange is a Vallejo acrylic done with an air brush. Now to make the required decals as the only ones I have are the Castle/Springboks.

That looks very nice. Any Dak is always good to look at, still my favourite aircraft.

I wonder what tipe of paint is in those "toutch up" car pant cans. That is an interesting idea. Wonder how the costs compare to Tamiya rattle cans....will have to look into that :)
Like your dak :smt023
