Anyone maybe have pix of the S-55's used by the SAAF. Silver with dayglo is the one I would like to do.

Thanx

Both the above pics are of the SAAF Museum restored S-55 prior to it's crash.

A pic of the original helicopter can be seen at http://www.saairforce.co.za/the-airforc ... t/58/s-55c

Did all the S-55's have the straight boom or were some of them retro fitted with the 2.5 degree drooped boom and horisontal stabs? If so what were the side #'s?

Thanx for the feedback

Theuns,

A4 and A5 had the Dayglo and silver finish and the droop on the tailboom.

Somehow recall mentioning that to you

There is a pic of A4 in "Eye in the sky" and some more pics in "17 Squadron A pictorial history of helicopter operations: 1957-2003" of A5.

Unfortunately I cannot scan them for you,you are welcome to make a turn here.

I found a few interesting pix.

A4 on floats on the Lagebaanlagoon, note the straight boom and V tailplanes

Same aircraft after the boom mod

Note the dayglow band on the fuse from the nose to the tail over silver.

Hi Theuns,

As I have said before,research,research.. :D

The other S55 referred to on this thread was a ex Royal Navy aircraft and was repainted to represent a SAAF machine (this machine also crashed at the SANMWM in Jhb).
I was the first "dummy" used for hoisting purposes at airshows with this a/c.

The original A5 crashed years ago.

The original A4 is at the museum at Zwartkop and will be rebuilt some in the future.

Something that is not well known is the Airfix Arctic Whirlwind ( S55) depicted on the box art and the correct serial, (in the green and white scheme) is at the museum at Zwartkops.

Geoff

PS> Good pics those, where did you get them from :?:
