The other day I went to the Newark Museum and got inside a 8, dam there is no space in there. The Canberra I got into though is a strange one as she was a test bed and has a Buccaneer nose.

Some how this has ended up in the begining of the thread  :?

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_Electric_Canberra

Canberra B(I)8
Third-generation Canberra derived from B6 as an interdictor.[99] Fitted with a new forward fuselage with teardrop canopy on the port side, and Navigator station forward of pilot (early marks had the navigator behind the pilot. Provision for a ventral pack similar to the B(I)6 with 4 x 20 mm Hispano cannon, one external hardpoint under each wing for up to 1,000 lb (454 kg) of bombs or unguided rockets, LABS (Low-Altitude Bombing System) for delivery of nuclear bombs. Prototype converted from the only B5 and first flown 23 July 1954, 72 built including 17 for export and two converted from B2s.

Canberra B(I)12
Canberra B(I)8 bombers built for New Zealand and South Africa.

There were of course the various modifications that the SAAF did to their Canberas. Some of these are shown in another model Canberra thread on this forum.

Time to break this one out... Going to be my first time using Eduard PE, only in the cockpit, so if I mess it up, it won't be too bad!
Will be using the MAV decals, but think it might not be ideal... Reg no.s look pretty big for the scheme I'm wanting to do.

Box top and aftermarket to be used

Cockpit chopped up as per Eduard's instructions
Image

Seat chopped up
Image

Rudder trenches filled (why did they make it with the trenches in the first place?)
Image

And sanded
Image

That's all for now, just a bunch of grey plastic, more to come soon. Need to find out if Airfix has got the colour call-out right for the pilot's seat... Humbrol 99, Lemon yellow?!

Koffie en beskuit tyd.

Now for some black painted plastic...

Image

Airfix seats don't look too bad really...

The look I'm going for (I know this ISN'T a B(1) 12!)

Following Bladerunner's advice to thin my paint more, I've definitely seen an improvement in my airbrush finish. Cheers Bladerunner!

Started on the PE bits. Mixed feelings really... It is my first time with PE
It does look effective, reckon I need more practice!

Cockpit (the starboard panel won't 'fit' comfortably, so I've left it...)

Pilot's seat with tiny bits of PE(buckles and bits still to be added)

Dry fitting parts.View from below... Should the pilot's seat sit so proud?! Not sure, but anyway.

Hi Vleis,

Absolutely love the PE cockpit, it really looks so much better than the out the box one.
The pilot seat does stick out like that.

Cheers sakkieg,

Wondered about that proud seat! Ja nee, the PE does look the part, I know I could not ever paint like that! I'm keen for the seat paint to dry to get on with the PE belts 'n buckles now

You're doing a great job. Can't wait for the finished product. Don't forget to pack in tons of weights around the cockpit before you close it up.

One of the things I remember about the canberras is that you didn't talk to the pilot as they took off, until they were well established on the climb. The reason being that if an engine failed on take-off it would only take about two seconds for the plane to roll over onto its back. So some concentration on the part of the pilot was called for.

Looking really good - PE in the cockpit is just the thing. Look forward to seeing the continuation of the build :smt023

It's clear the Air Force doesn't have quite the same enthusuiasm for painting and polishing that the Navy does! \:D/
