I'll go first and then you guys can make me jealous!

  • 1/48 Italeri T6G Texan (Plan to get the Eduard detail sets and the resin R1340 Wasp engine from Vector)
  • 1/48 ESCI Mirage F1-AZ (I have the awesome Dark Mirages decal sheet reserved for this build)
  • 1/48 ESCI Aermacchi MB326K, Single Seater
  • 1/48 Italeri Aermacchi MB326A, Two Seater (I have Mav's Silver Falcons republic scheme decals for this. Unhappy with the quality though)
  • 1/48 Scaleworx Cheetah D conversion set with the Heller Mirage IIIC/B Donor Kit (I might replace this with the Eduard IIIC)
  • 1/48 Airfix BAE Hawk 100 Series (The one with the SAAF decals)
  • 1/48 Italeri JAS 39 Gripen (Again, the one with the SAAF decals. Plan to get the Eduard detail sets)

I also have a 1/72 Heritage Aviation Turbo Dak conversion kit with an Italeri C47 Donor and recently sold off my prized collection of about 6 or 7 1/72 SuperModel MB326 Single and Two Seater's each of them complete with the RCR models etched detail sets. They were so sweet but I was moving to 1/48 scale and someone wanted them really badly (Johan, if you ever read this you are one lucky dude!).

OK, your turn! What's in your stash?

But pray tell, where you gonna put those 1/48 liberators once done ? They must be HUGE ... Then again I don't think the Catalina or Welligton are far behind in the shelf-space needed either ...

Cheers

Well hells bells, this forum is inhabited by people with some quite serious stashes! My stash is limited to what I can fit into a box unfortunately as it lives under our bed. I've picked out just those planes that I really like and their detail sets and reference works. As they're built I might just replace the empty spaces with new models.

Falcon1, is your High Planes cheetah kit the Spotty version? I had a low viz version in the stash but when I opened it up it was so full of flash it just looked terrible. Nice fine recessed panel lines though (kind of the opposite end of the scale to the Italeri C47!). It could probably have turned out well but I put it up for sale at the same amount I paid for it and low and behold a bidding war started and I actually made a profit. I put that money into the scaleworx conversion in 1/48 and that's where I am now. That monogram C-47 and the Italeri Herc are going to take up quite a bit of space!

Seeing some mention of wooden models too. What kind are these? Are they the flying balsa variety? I didn't mention it in the first post but I have got an unbuilt Andercraft SAAF Harvard and SAAF Astra. Not sure on their scale but the wingspan of both will end up at 31.5". If you enjoy the SAAF and freeflight model flying then these are kits of beauty but I believe they're long since out of production.

It does look like we have some serious "SAAFaholics" here (I'm glad I'm not the only one). What got me really dedicated was seeing Phil Cater's pictures over at the IPMSSA website a few years back. Phil established the SAAF SIG or Special Interest Group over in the UK, and his displays at local model shows and gettogethers are spectacular to say the least. I hope to get something similiar going over here in the States over time:

Image

@ Splatt: The High Planes Cheetah C kits I have are just the plain ones, but I plan to write the owner of High Planes and ask him if he could send me some "Spotty" decals, as that's the only difference between the two different kits. If I remember correctly he had someone else supply the "Spotty" decals for his kits and if they're not available anymore, I'll just end up manufacturing my own. The kits do have a lot of flash from molding, and are not for someone just starting out. I'll have to get a lot more practice on working with resin before I tackle them, but I'm sure with a lot of patience and effort they'll turn out to be some nice looking Cheetahs.

Hopefully I'll be receiving my 1st set of Scaleworx conversions soon, and I'm also looking forward to their future releases as I have a lot of interesting things planned for some of the kits in my 'stash. After working my way up through the scales and hopefully gaining some skill along the way, a 1/32 Cheetah C will definately be the centerpiece of the display. The 1/48 Flossie and Dak will definately eat up a lot of the display area, but their size is nothing compared to the 1/100 Entex Boeing 747 that'll be finnished in 80's SAA colours. I guess it says "largest plastic plane model kit ever made" on the box for a reason... #-o

I plan on lighting up the larger 1/48 kits like the flossie and using those small scalectrix car engines to make the turbines functional. There's some really nice photo-etch kits available to detail them up nicely as well, but I guess it all boils down to how much money you're wanting to spend on one model at the end of the day. The wood models I referred to on the list is wooden display models usually found on officer's desks. They manufacture some really great looking wood desk models that are readily availible on eBay, and I'm using the ones I've managed to obtain so far for the basis of larger scale planes they've never gotten around to produce as plastic model kits.

Here are some pictures of these in SAAF colours as an example:

@ 1722: The kits you have listed with the tags: "searching", are they specific kits you're still after??
