It's taking shape nicely Mistra :smt023

How much of the black pre-shading should be visible after the main colours go on :?:

Thanks Kremlin - pre-shading should be almost imperceptible - it shows through better on the underside. Due to the number of layers of top colours I dumped onto the model in trying to get the correct brown/green hue, the pre-shading is no longer too obvious. The main weathering comes after all painting and decals applied. Still got to decide if :
a) I go for all pastel weathering
b) A combination of water colour wash, followed by selective pastelling in really grubby areas.

Think I'll use the wash as I did on the Su-24 posted elsewhere on this site.

But first, I need to get some SAAF castles.....

Thank you Mistral, I am pleased that the colors are ok. The color choice was difficult.
That's my C-47, which is seen here with you in the forum.

Finally, ordered some castles from Mav Decals - here they are - I think the fuselage one is too large - too late....

Trumpeter got the main undercarriage wrong - although they look correct, the landing gear legs are way too short and the "sit" of the aircraft is not right. :(

The Aires resin engines and Quickboost corrected engine cowlings were well worth the extra cash :D

Weathering was done as follows - overall thick wash with watercolor black, left to dry and removed with damp cloth and ear buds. Followed by some fine chipping around engine with Tamiya X-16 aluminium, finally, localized exhaust and other staining using dark grey and black pastels. Yellow "59" on the nose is too big but that's all I had in the spares box :|

Underside - used the Eduard flaps which proved to be quite an operation assembling these fiddly things. The surface detail on the kit is commendably nice:

Beautiful work!

Mistral, in my opinion you are the arguably one of the best SAAF modeler's around. your models have a lot of character.

It looks really good!
I just have a question about the gun: is it a Hispano (like the Shackleton, Vampire, Spitfire, etc used), Giat F2 (Ratel, Rooivalk), or Mauser MG151 (aka "GA-1" used on Allo K-car)?

Thanks MARS, Dodger, Dean and Theuns. Appreciate the compliments :smt023

I based the gun on the MG151 as per Alo fit although the gun mount in the Dak (from the limited pics I had) looked larger and higher? Theuns, you should be safe building a WWII SAAF subject  I tend to focus on bush war and later subjects...
