Thanks guys,

Portamus, it will be in the late scheme with dark earth, dark green and PE blue underside. And it will be carrying a maximum weapons load.
The canopy is now masked with Tamiya masking tape. Now I can start applying filler to smooth out the join between the canopy and the fuselage.

Cheers

Hi guys,

Just another update. The kit elevators slot into the rear fuselage, but the real F-1 has an all-moving elevator. So I filled the slots and drilled a hole through to the other side to fit a brass tube. The the tabs on the elevators were removed and holes drilled to fit a sub-diameter brass tube, which will fit inside the brass tube in the fuselage. Also thins strips of plastic card was added near the elevator tips as per conversion instructions.
Cheers

Ja these guys are going to go blind filling in all the fiddly little details! #-o
I used to just glue the bits together as the instructions in the box said and painted it with some cool colours - I don't think I ever bothered with the stickers that came in the box.

Seriously, you guys do amazing work! =D>

I see now why Dean introduced you as a 'serious' SAAF modeller, Bladerunner. I'm one of those curious folks and Dean's intro has had my mind racing ever since then. Are you John Wiederman of ScaleWorx? The familiarity Dean hinted at would tend to point to this as a possibility. Are you Malcolm Reid? Your build work seems of a similarly high quality to his so far. I've always admired his choice of paints and custom mixes on his SAAF models. Very evocative colours. Even more fantastically, having seen your profiles could you be a designer / painter of the real schemes and real aircraft for the SAAF? That's about as serious as I would guess any SAAF modeller could get. My apologies if I've not pegged you correctly. I could go on listing everyone who's ever built a SAAF model to my knowledge but that might get a bit ridiculous. I must know, it is driving me crazy to be left hanging like this

Kind regards,
Your very own internet stalker

Myself? I'm a relative unknown, my only claim to fame being that I won the junior section of the very first Port Elizabeth SAAF museum modelling competition a very long time ago. Godfrey Brown, who won the overall competition gifted his prize of a ride in Stu Davidson's Seaview Princess to me. I know he is gone now, sadly. If anyone is on this forum from the friends of the SAAF museum in PE circa 1992-1994 I'm keen to hear from you. I've visited a few times since we moved away but unfortunately I've not met any of the old timers from when it was first being set up. Seems the place is now staffed by more official air force types who don't know me. Would be nice to link up again with a guy called Tony van Niekerk in particular.

All the best,
Simon

Hi Splatt,

You are a curious person indeed. Does our identities really matter? Would one still be treated as just another modeler once identified, or have a biased audience? I'm rather flattered that you rate me with some high-flying modelers. I'm merely here to chat about and share modeling, tips and techniques. Thanks for viewing my thread.

Stay cool :smt023

Hi Bladerunner,
I'm getting very anxious - please paint the top of your F1 now in the old camo scheme and take piccies - you can always paint over it again!
