Help required.
Does anyone have any clear colour photos of the SAAF DC-4's when they were in the White/Silver colour scheme.
I need to be able to download them to print off as I am getting a 1/74 DC-4 kit and wish to build it in these SAAF colours to go with my 1/72 White/Silver Herc C-130BZ & Transall C-160Z.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated as I reside in the UK and photos are difficult to obtain.

Hi Vulcan

I see Mav Decals have released decals for the Viscount that could possibly be used. Lettering might be a bit small for the DC-4, Zane can also produce custom decals as required.

Hi Mars.
Many thanks for that info.
MAV have made several different sets of 1/48 SAAF & other air forces decals for me in the past.
I always use his decals for my African subjects as I battle to obtain these decals from any where else. I have found nothing is too much to ask from Zane. He has always produced what I need such as the ones on my 1/48 Ventura as used by the SAAF and now my 1/48 C-130 Herk that I busy completing as the SAAF 30 Years of Herc and 28 Sqn 50 years anniversary.

I battle getting decent colour photos of the earlier SAAF colour schemes, so sometime I have to use those in the attached magazine (By L.J. Voosloo) or work from various books on the SAAF that I have. The unfortunate part is that most of the books have photos of the aircraft in their camo colours.

That looks like the first scheme that the DC-4's were painted in just after delivery from SAA!

Orange vertical stab and rudder!

Scarce photo as not many exist in this scheme!

Looks like all they actually did was to paint out the springbok logo on the tail and change "Airways" to "Air Force" - otherwise it is identical to the SAA scheme.
