Hi Sorry I have a few more questions regarding the D, D2 and B. I have the Highplanes kit and wish to build each differently so they are not just distinguished by the serials. I have the Guardians of the Nation book now and it helps a lot but still have a few items to confirm. This is what I have decided on so far.
Cheetah D, 841 with re-fuelling probe, framed screen Kfir style u/c doos, straight edge to the intake and light diamond scheme.
Cheetah D2 845,no probe,framed screen,Mirage style u/c doors straight intake,overall dark grey.
Cheetah B 859, re-fuelling probe, smooth screen,Kfir u/c doors scallop intake edge and dark diamond scheme.
Are these ok and have I missed any other details. Thanks in advance.
P.S just in the last stages of a Cheetah C, 1:72 scale

Hi Metallicus

To my knowledge 841 never flew in the diamond scheme, it was the first D to be upgraded and reentered service in the bandit scheme.

Also I don't think Cheetah D's had dark and light schemes like the C's. What you may be seeing is weathered/ faded schemes.

Hi Metallicus,

Your information on Cheetah D 841 is correct: Here is the caption from my artwork in the Winston Brent book on the Cheetah. The artwork is based on actual photographs of the aircraft. I believe Mars is getting confused with 861.

Cheetah D, 841, 2 Squadron, AFB Louis Trichardt, 1993. This Cheetah D was delivered to 89 Combat Flying School on 29 October 1992. The Mirage IIIDZ, 841 was involved in an accident, while based at 85 Combat Flying School, but was eventually rebuilt as a Cheetah D. This was the first Cheetah to be painted in the experimental air-to-air colour scheme with the diamond pattern, and lighter colours. It already had the 2 Squadron emblem on the tail in preparation for the closing of 89 Combat FS and the transfer of the Cheetah D fleet to 2 Squadron, early in 1993.

Regards,
Piet

Hi Metallicus,

Interesting build with three Dual Cheetahs at once! :smt023
The injection molded Mirage IIID host kit is quite nice. You can't go wrong with using Winston Brent's book as reference. Now that you have all the facts on the research material, there's a couple of inaccuracies you might consider to address on the kits. Like the tail fin, Chaff/Flare dispenser, canards, RWR's, instrument panels and the main undercarriage and wheels for a Cheetah B?
Looking forward to your progress :)

Cheers, John

Thanks all, I will certainly make sure I correct the inaccuracies. Still have a bit more research to do on them before I start them at the end of January. I love all things Mirage really and along with the Cheetah C at the moment I am building a IIIO and a IIID in the ARDU scheme with a twist. I have been sent a couple of pics of them carrying Pakistani markings. they were only like it for 3 months and unfortunately I have been asked not to share the pics yet, although the person who told me that has sent them to others! Again thanks and have a good Christmas.

Good evening all, finally finished the Cheetah C, hope you like her. I built it using the Scaleworx 1:72 conversion, thanks John. Nice easy-ish build and have another to do after the Cheetah B and D's. I can't get enough of this beautiful delta and the collection is getting larger by the month, but I still haven't built a French one! Maybe next year. Any how enjoy and now onto the others.

Good evening John, Happy New year. By all means I have no problems with that at all. Must say I enjoyed the build and will be getting another from you in the future once I have built the second one. The only part I found hard was the canopy, had to do a bit of adjusting to get a good fit. Will be starting the twin seater's soon.
