Hi all, I'm looking for some advise - I've gotten this far with a Frog Canberra and am getting a bit confused about markings. Fuselage castles will be done soon and I have fin flash and 452 code. Question - castles on top and lower wings? Large codes on lower wings? I was hoping to do an early 1970's aircraft but available photos are leaving me unsure....

The following is an extract from “A Portrait of Military Aviation in Southern Africa" by Ron Belling:

In the mid-70s, the Canberras were finished in matt PRU Blue (BSC636) overall, with reduced size castles on the fuselage only and fin flash as before. Wing walk lines on the wings were in black and most of the stencilling in orange-yellow. No underwing serials were worn, but the serial number was painted in small numerals on the rear of the fuselage with the last figure of the serial being repeated on the nose. Later, the insignia was deleted.

Thanks Dean, very useful info. I had seen photos of models with PRU finish, large serials and castles on lower wings only and it didn't seem correct. Time frame of the Canberra I'm doing now seems to be more like post-1975.

Must have been a very short lived scheme?

The small fuselage and nose numerals referred to were 8" high.

The early PRU Blue scheme also had the squadron badge above the fin flash, later on in the late 70's the squadron badge and all markings except for the fuselage serial number were omitted.
