Wonder if the SAAF is going to plan anything for their 100th?

@ Dean, would you perhaps know?

There are some people pushing for something, but given the current situation the SAAF and the country finds itself in, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Yes agree with Dean, with the current state of the SA Air force and the countries weakening Rand I see AAD going all downhill after SAAF 100..This year was the worse in terms of aircraft flying and hall displays I have ever seen at AAD,we might get the Chinese or Russians here but in terms of USAF and others, they currently not friends with our country at the moment,so we will be lucky to see anything better here than this AAD..that has passed. As always we get to see what is here and planned on the day before AAD.

What we know about SAAF 100, is that AAD 2020 is already scheduled. its unlikely that there will be a separate public celebration for SAAF 100, so the anniversary will be integrated as a theme of AAD.

From a SAAF perspective, I don't see them being able to put on a bigger show than what was done for 2018. Possibly only rearranging a a few features, but on the whole it will be the same.

The question of international participation depends on who is paying and what the budget is, so serious sponsorship will have to be arranged. Also given the political and economic client this will be a tough sell.

Planning would have to start at least one year in advance if anything special is to happen at all.

I wish they will go big for SAAF 100, but as stated before funding is what makes those birds go up. No bucks, no Buck Rogers...

Dream would be Russia(Su-35), RAF(Reds and Typhoon), USAF(whatever) and many more! One can dream! They can at least give us a Spotty mk2 on a Gripen. I think a griffon caricature would fit nicely(Kremlin? hint...hint).

Would be nice if they could arrange a SADC or AU exercise to start on the M<onday. Then it gives the SADC or AU air forces good reason to be here...

Or a BRICS exercise of sorts...

Hint hint Dean.

Get the Navy guys to brief the SAAF on how it's done :D

Don't know if it will stay so but the C-17 Pilot at AAD told me they will come big for SAAF 100. He said they are planning to bring two C-117s, so that one can do displays.
