Seems to have worked as his trip to Moz was done in one of 21 Sqn Falcons.

I don't see why not, as soon as SAA Technical completes the C-check. http://www.defenceweb.co.za/index.php?o ... Itemid=107

Time will tell if he will.

I do how ever see SAA Airbus A330-243 ZS-SXW flying over africa under the presidential call sign.

Glad to see SAA aircraft being used over VIP aircraft being hired due to the luxury etc if my data is correct of course.

Hmm. I thought the idea was to avoid dodgy operators. . .

Getting serious, does anyone know what it costs to charter an SAA A330 compared to chartering a VIP Aircraft? Although I suppose that Government chartering from SAA doesn't require any real money to be paid.

That must have been LMG1 on 20 March to Kigali, returning on 21 March.

I don't have the rates at hand, but if I recall correctly it's at least twice as expensive as getting a biz jet from Execujet or another supplier, especially as there are already defined rates embedded in the RT61 contracts.

Unfortunately, although it's from one government entity to another, they're still separate bodies for accounting purposes so there's no saving for the SAAF. It has to pay the charter cost at full market value regardless of whether it's SAA or a private company, so by using an SAA A330 the SAAF budget is being unnecessarily depleted even further.

If the presidency could handle this charter outside the SAAF and get SAA to somehow provide it at their own cost, that's a different story.
