1.I need an info about the crash site of SAAF bomber Liberator VI,KG 839'L or 'R, 205 RAF group, 31 SAAF sqdn,lost June 29 1944 in Romania or Bulgaria, Pilot Capt T.A.M. V.d.Spuy, all 7 crewmen KIA. Any new info will be appreciated.
2. My friend Dan Melinte from Romania (iar81m@yahoo.com) is seeking contacts with relatives in SA of crewmembers of B-24 Liberator Mk VI "D", who are interesting in details of the crash of that bomber,fall down in Romania. B-24 Liberator Mk VI "D" ( 199 ??) from 31Sq SAAF was shot down during night 3/4 July '44, mission Bucharest .The bomber crashed near Videle village south Romania . From the 6 men crew, two escape with parachute and taken POW, and the other 4 were KIA. The crew were: Cpt. Brian Bird, the pilot ( POW), Lt. Ed Irving Nicholson ( Navigator) POW, Lt. E. Nowers Copilot ( KIA), W/O L. Preston, W/O J. Robertson and F/Sgt Fred Ryder all three gunners KIA. The 4 KIA were later buried in Tancabesti Commonwealth cemetery ( Romania).
Dan recently found the crash site and has some new info.
