Some more info for Saturday:
The Museum will be open from 09:00, with the gate to the Shack opening at 10:00. The gates close at 10:50 with STARTUP at 11:00.
There will be cold drinks for sale at the gate. The Friends of the Museum will also have their kiosk set up for you to buy caps, key rings, and other lekker goodies.
After the ground run, there will be a book launch at the Museum. It will be 'Armourers Anonymous' / 'Bomrollers Anoniem', available in English and Afrikaans, by Willie Burger who will be there to sign copies. All proceeds go to the restoration of Museum aircraft. You can PM me if you can't be there but would like a copy.
A quote from Mr Burger on the book:
Quote:
In my 25 years as an armourer in the SA Air Force, I heard many fellow armourers say that they wanted to write a book about us. At Smokie Vermeulen's funeral one of the chaps said he was busy on a book - to be called "The Flying Screw". It never materialised. At Joe Bornman's funeral, John Joyce asked when one of us was going to write a book about this bunch of hooligans. Talk's cheap - but money buys the whiskey, and I think the time has come that do something about the situation.
For many of those who went before, it's too late for them to laugh at themselves, but I hope that I can give, to those who are still around, something to jog their memories and to cause a smile, a snigger or outright laughter. THIS IS DEDICATED TO ALL OF YOU.
There will also be a
once off opportunity to go on board the aircraft during the ground run. There is place for SIX people on a first come first served basis on Saturday morning and at a cost of R500 each. This includes a VIP pass and a commemorative Shackleton bottle of wine and keyring. Again, all proceeds go to the upkeep and running costs of the aircraft. Aint nothing smells like the inside of a Shack
PM me for details of the contact person.
Then to end the day, there will be a bring and braai at the Museum.
