Can anyone tell me where I can get pix of either the Angolan AF or Mozambique AF Mil 24 (or is it the 25/35?) Hind D Please.

Is there any real visual difference between the D end the E, or was it just the NATO code for the Russian and export models?

I would like to build a model of the Angolan o Moz Mils but the easiest one to get is the E.
Thanx

(0:12), the single seat Su-27 they show crashed years ago #-o

http://www.google.nl/search?q=angolan+m ... 0AWOlrjOCg

Hind-E is the same as the Hind-V, Hind-V is more modern(avionics and weapons) and has 2 30mm barrel cannons while the Hind-D has a 12.7 mm gatling cannon.

Hope this helps!

IIRC during 87/88 we reffered to two versions operated by FAPA/DAA: The export versions of the Mi-24, aka the Mi-25(as "Hind Delta") and Mi-35 (as "Hind Echo").

Please pardon my stupid question - was 88 the airframe # of a Hind E " of the Angolan AF? and 87 of a hind D?

SO if I undersatand correctly, the ainframes of the D and E is visually the same, but the cannons on the E differs from the gatling gun of the D, otherwise the rokets ect on the pylons would be the same?

Interesting to see the pix that it looks like the aircraft wore their original paint from whatever country it was recieved from and that a "standard" Angolan or Moz scheeme was not present?

Thanx guys

Yes and No, the Moz Hinds(Moz hinds are not flying) don't use the big rocket pot(80mm) and the advanced Anti-Tank missiles(AT-6). Ang uses the big rocket pod(On the Mi-24P) but im not sure about the AT-6, but you can always let them off :smt023

Im wrong about the 30mm cannon, that is on the Mi-24P, the difference between the E and the V is the avaionics and the weapons it can carry.

So the gun on the link I gave will be correct for either Moz or Angola then?

Thanx for the feedback

If you need some other info, please ask!

Hi T,

FAPA/DAA operated a mix of these since 1987/1988, rumours first surfaced via my desk in mid-87 of new 'helicopters' being delivered/being operated. It was eventually determined to be a 'new' version of the Hind. The 'cannon' changes does seem to trigger the firing of some neurons again. It was almost 25 years ago, so I hope you appreciate the lack of detail,I posted what I recalled as I was resonsible for the FAPA/DAA desk for amoungst others the 6th Military region, which inclused Menongue, Cuito C and the entire S/E part of Angola, and some area N/E of the Luena area.

On the kit there is this round "pod" thing just behind the engine fairing. What is it, dit Angolan Mils have it on? In the pic I have of the Angolna heli, it looks like the moindting of it is there but the "pod" is missing :?

The 'pod' is an Infrared Counter-Measures System, used to cause deception of IR missiles seeker heads on their way up to the helicopter from the ground...!

Hi Tinus.
The interior blue in the 80's was RLM 65.
I have a bolt that a friend of mine took out of one that was shot down, and compared it to the colours.

Did the Angolan Mils have the counter measure pod?
Thanx for the info sofar, my build thread is on the model section under group builds - rotorwing.
The light blue I got for the cabin looks pretty close to RLM 65, the cocpit is a little greener.

I'm sure the Mils nowadays have counter measure pods! But back in the 70's and 80's...I can't help you with that :(

Good luck!
