Roger no offence
In January I was in Pretoria and gave the Swartkops staff a digital copy of Hewitson's film.

Yes of course the original film is his property but that does not mean one should not encourage him to donate it to the museum.
I agree but that is very generic. The reality and sad case is that I spoke to a couple of ww2 vets who donated stuff to the museum many years ago and the museum lost it due to theft/mismanagement.
In January I asked the Swartkops museum staff for ww2 film footage but I was told they do not have it anymore and also no index available. I was told it is stored at the national film archive in Pretoria. I went to the archive and the staff could not help me regarding SAAF's historical films, they have no index and no viewing facilities in working order. My impression was that they also do not know exactly where it is stored. It is a bit of a mess-up. Very sad indeed.
It is absolutely no use that people donate artifacts to the museums in good faith and then it get lost or public is denied access to it.
Any forum members or maybe museum staff on this forum who can help regarding SAAF ww2 archive films?
