The Ju-87 Stuka is a Ju-87D model and belonged to Geschwaderstab StG 3, the photo is taken post Sept 1941 as prior to this the markings were 2F, S1, A5 and T6 all semi-autonomus I/StG 1, II/StG 2 etc were incorporated into one, and all used S7.

On the photo of the Bf-109 there are two Bf-110 one has 3U on it so it had belonged to III/ZG.26

The propller badge is a rank badge LAC Leading Aircraftman

This is where the SAAF Forum has an amazing capability and capacity. In less than 24 hours Moderators and Members have researched and found the story behind some old small photos, in this case from a box belonging to the late father (RIP) of 'fix-a-dak'.

Well done all round! =D>

Once again thanks guys. Your response has exceeded my wildest expectations. =D> \:D/
Once my mom digs out some more photos, I will post them. I know there are some photos of warships that may be of interest to some, especially Eugene.
Doug HOT, I am not trying to compete with you. My mom only has a few small cardboard boxes, nowhere near the size of your trommel.

Doug has a problem with his trommel - only place he can really store it properly is in Kimberly.

Maybe SAAF Museum could open a branch there specially for all the trommels?

You can't put the precious Trommel in that cesspool! Is djy nie lekka in jdou kop 'ie?

The Trommel requires the establishment of the Institute for Applied Trommelology under the Directorship of Professor Doug HOT.
Once The Trommel is properly curated, other trommels, boxes, albums, and sundry bundles of old papers can be added to the Insitute's Library.

Thanks guys for sharing of your joy in the trommel. I really believe we ought to share what we've got from a historical perspective and get it out there. Now I know this is totally off the WWII thread, but just scanned a badly torn photo to retrieve a Mirage EZ 827 pic.

hi everybody im new to this forum but i can give you some accurate information about 22sqdn saaf gibralter 1944 as my father was in the R.A.F.V.R as were all the lads who enlisted in wartime .my dad was a wop/ag posted to 22 sqdn 1944 from gianaclis .
The aircraft designated to him and the rest of the crew was J 6416 pv 1 lockheed ventura which proves that j 6416 was at gibralter
in 1944 and not 1945 which has already been queried in this forum. The squadrons duty was to give convoy escort and u boat sweeps
over the med and gibralter straights, the squdron took over from 202 flying boat squadron( who operated the catalina} after they were recalled to the uk. So i hope the lady who posted the photo of the ventura with her uncle kneeling beside it has had her question answered. As far as i know al the sergeant wop/ag were R.A.F.V.R but they were seconded to s.a.a.f .
