Would the aircraft that made those kills get kill-markings...?

That would be cool but I'm not too sure the Swedes would like it [-X
They might not invite the SAAF to play again next time.

Seriously - no, only actual combat kills are recorded like that, not excercise "kills".

Yes, it did get a white F-16 kill marking on it..... Actually two of them.... Look in the gallery, there you will see the kill markings.

As a matter of interest I recently came across an EA-18G Growler with an F-22 kill marking on it, also from an exercise....

CLiffie - you are RIGHT my boy - Vlaggie did get it. I can't remember ever HEARING about Cheetahs flying against F-16's, but there were TWO on Vlaggie's nose.

Would the people in the know PLEASE tell us who the pilot was that got the better of the F-16 ?

Back to the point though: It would look seriously "DOF" though to put a Gripen on a Gripen's nose to indicate the kill. But if it is the custom - on they come. I'm having a giggle now to myself: we'll get 4 Gripens from Sweden via sea, and they'll have kill markings on them already! :smt023

If not a Gripen, then rather the roundel of the airforce that suffered the "loss"... Like they did with the Angolan MiG kills. But it would look bad if you had a friendly airforces' roundel on your aircraft's nose.

That is actually why I think they went with the shape of the F-16 rather then the countries flag and probably why they would also rather indicate the LION Effort kills with the shape of a Gripen if they are gonna do it. Or maybe also in the shape of a missile. That is also very popular

Or even the Lion Effort 2012 roundel/badge...

What missiles would they use for the markings, Iris-T :?:

I don`t think they will put the "kill" on the aircraft. There were a lot of other "kills" that the Cheetahs got but were never painted on them, don`t know why they put it on vlaggie.

It would have been nice if they had decided to make a new spotty for the Lion Effort.

I know who the pilot was but I would rather not post his name here. Because according to some of his old squadron mates had it put on there himself. Only repeating what I heard from another 2 squadron pilot who was there so don't hold a gun to my head

So are you saying that we have had to start from square 1 in terms of BVR? What happened to the lessons we learned with the Cheetah? I understand we don't have BVR missiles but that doesn't mean we can't train for it.

Well, you can`t train BVR if you don`t have the missiles, each missile is different to the other one, V3 - AMRAAM - Meteor and more, not the same range, lock on time, flight, and tracking. We do have the experience, but can`t train for it without knowing wat missile to use, for example.
