Just to let you guys know...spotted at Waterkloof last week was the CASA 295 MPA Airbus Military Demonstrator, Dakota 6887 from Cape town was also seen parked next to the CASA, arrived late afternoon, seems SAAF is looking for replacement, and the CASA is an option.

Us folks in Slaapstad must keep our eyes open ... that CASA 295 is apparently coming down to Cape Town to do some work with 35 sqdn. :D

This is an image borowed from a person with the user name "Great Dane" over at Avcom.

Light was busy fading and seems to have been cropped quite some bit, but still a good look at the bird

Will be at Ysters on Thursday and at Langebaanweg on Fri.

I had a good chance of accompanying an an air-air with it on Fri, but will be at Overberg ...!

Anyone catch a glimpse of the 235 over Pretoria today?
Did it land at FASK for museum preservation?

It is actually a CASA 295MPA Airbus Military Demonstrator. It seems to be one of the possibilities that the SAAF are looking at to replace our old Dakotas at 35 Squadron as Maritime Patrol Aircraft. It is soon heading off to Cape Town to do some excersises with 35 Squadron.

I knew it...the profile did look too long for the 235! I doubted my own ability to ID aircraft... Good for CASA, strike before the iron is hot. 295 one of my personal favs for MPA.

There are no MPA-ish lumps and bumps visible, it looks like an ordinary transport model.

This pic shows the MPA version's features.

I was just about to say the same thing.

That looks like a standard transport CASA to me. No pylons, under fuselage radar, or optical sensor forward.

It's a pity they can't "MPA" the C27J Spartan. In a lot of respects a far better aircraft. There should be a lot of "as new" C27J Spatan's in the market shortly. Something to consider.
