Hi Mars
That is 169 at Taba Tshwane.
One of the (at least 2) Mirage F1 decoys.
Read the following thread for some information:

A question that I always wondered about:
Why were the F1CZ's not sold in the same way as some of the AZ's?
It seems they all found their way directly to universities & museums.

They needed engines for the Cheetah Cs ?

I think some F1 engines did go to Cheetah C.

A couple more points for selling the AZ ahead of CZ: there were fewer F1 CZ airframes than F1 AZ - we started with two squadrons of AZ and one squadron of CZ. Also I suspect the AZs were generally in better condition / more reliable than CZs - in particular the Cyrano IV radar on the CZs had very low reliability, the AZs had less avionics to go wrong.

The CZs were retired in 1992. The arms embargo was still in place at the time and selling the aircraft would have been extremely difficult, even if they were complete with engines.

207 arrived at her new home at the Stellenbosch Flying Club on the evening of 03 April 2019 after having been donated to the club by the Stellenbosch University. She was disassembled and moved with the very kind assistance of the Paramount Group and will go on permanent display at the club. She is in exceptional if dusty condition after 20 years 3 metres up on her stands and will make a fantastic addition to the appeal and interest value in a visit to the field.

The talk so far is that she will be displayed in front of the flight school, facing runway. She is to be displayed with the Vampire & Messerschmidt trainer. That is only what I heard.

But, pics or it didn't happen right?

Confirmation that it is indeed 207

Image

Here she is inside the Engineering structures lab with her wings removed. For transport the nosecone and the vertical stabilizer was also removed. I unfortunately could not get pics of that.

The bolts that hold the main wing in. Two per side, and they are pretty heavy too!

Assembly in hanger 3 at Stellenbosch Flying Club. Paramount guys brought their jigs and lifts with them. Very nice guys too. :smt023 They gladly explain things when asked and were very open to a few of us assisting in the re-assembly process. We had a few of us volunteers assisting in no time at all! Beats plastic kit modelling by far in my opinion!

Shocks and canopy were pressurized with air again. She sits a bit tail high due to the high pressure (they accidentally over inflated the shocks a bit  ) and the canopy is nice and bouncy! \:D/ Canopy is now locked though (To keep the avgeeks and screwdrivers from bagging things. [-X Damn... ) and the key is stowed somewhere safe...

She is in credibly good condition. No rust at all. In the photo the tail cone and some panels were not yet installed so she looks incomplete, but they are at the Flying Club. Even after all these years she still has some very clear avtur in her tanks! They guys from Paramount recon that with funding it would only take six months to have her in airworthy condition again. [-o< Although the 830m runway is a bit less than the 900m she needs. :?

I hope they look after her very well, otherwise I can make space in the garage...

Great stuff Mamba, thanks. :smt023

Just hope that sitting in the open, even if under a canopy, does not start the deterioration/corrosion process.
