I also have a SAAF pilots log books for 24 Squadron. The chap served from El Alamein to Sicily and then went to 5 Wing flying Dakota on the shuttle from SA to Rome.
Has loads of aircraft serial numbers and information in it. Especially concerning the C-47s. He flew around 40 of them and alot of them being the significant ones ie the first one the SAAF obtained. Which they stupidly gave to Rhodesia where it was written off in the early 1980's as a Zimbabian Air Force machine.
He took part in a number of raids as mentioned in the SAAF at War, one of which there is a photo of some 24 Sqn aircraft bombing the Italian Island of Patelleria in the SAAF at War it is in his log book.
Could also be used to track down the grave of one of the air crew who was killed in action down. As it mentions where they buried him and he is listed on a memorial and not with a personal grave.
I plotted the Cairo to Zwarkops route. Four days flying in a Dak
