Thanks Dean - I have (or had) a photo of one of those aboard a crashboat, obviously a practise round
recovered after airdropping. Didn't they go out of service in the sixties?

I mentioned in the thread on Impala 507 that the crate in the background was an Airspeed Oxford that had been "imported" into SA for the Museum. Those early days saw us hauling aircraft parts around the Southern Cape to various airshows. Here are a few photos of the Airspeed Oxford which are best posted under the Ysterplaat Museum thread. There is one of the fledgling Friends of the SAAF Museum Cape Town Branch. I'm guess around the early 1980's, but Dean would definitely know better

Thanks Dean...I was looking for this old email (on another computer of mine which died!) So the names are there, and ofcourse we are now able to confirm the Date March 82 AND the venue....Saldanha.

They have got a incorrectly marked Atar engine from a Mirage 3 in the hanger. It is marked Atar 9K-50. The engine on display is the one with the clam-shell zorst nozzle. I think that is a Atar 09-C or 09-B engine and not a 9K-50 as in the Mir. F1 and Cheetah. Just thought I'd mention...

Was not sure where to post this, but following on from the pics of the Airspeed Oxford which was in SAAF service, I came across these very small B&W prints which I believe I got from a great aunt. They are of an Airspeed Consul, which was the predecessor and civilian version of the Oxford. It does have an Africa (East?)connection as can be seen from the guard in one of the pics. Registration is G_AIOV.

Where is that Oxford now?

Here are a couple of pics taken in the early days of the Friends of the SAAF Museum Cape Town. The AAA had been captured up in Angola apparently. The Leyland Hippo Aircraft Refueller - a museum piece in its own right - was a donation I arranged from my Company - (Mobil Oil) to the museum.

And that Spad? Where's that from?
