Some piccies from the last Museum flying training day at Swartkop on 2 December. Observations - first time I've attended this in around 12 months. Must less activity than previously. In the past they flew each aircraft multiple times. This time, there appeared to be a single sortie for each aircraft type. The levels of public interest appear to be very healthy with lots of folks milling around. The boerrie rolls were also excellent. The light, as always, in the morning is rubbish from the museum side. This is not a problem if you're part of the Museum photography club who have the advantage of sitting on the hill below the SAAF memorial with the sun behind them. Anyway, good to see some young ground crew helping out. Glad the aeries are still going. The Puma looked to be in immaculate condition !

First off, a view of the flight line :

The Mirage F1CZ is 211.

Transall was repainted a few years ago to the same Dark Earth / Olive Drab colours as before, the only difference being that the paint formula's were changed to exclude the lead content and as one can see the colour differs from what we know of the old Dark Earth and Olive Drab.
Exposure to the sun has also played it's role and the new colours have faded to what they look like now.

Harvard 7028 is from the Harvard Club of SA hence the civilian registration, this aircraft flew earlier in the week for a flypast at the new Mines & Military Museum at Springs.
Unfortunately the painter didn't get it right when 7028 was resprayed some years ago at Rand airport. The Sprinbok in the roundel, numeral font and the yellow/ green chequer tailband bear witness to this.

The young gentlemen marshalling the choppers are grandsons of one of the chopper pilots, unfortunately he didn't fly on the 2nd December.

I'm pleased to hear that the boerie rolls were excellent, I haven't lost the braaiing touch yet.
