Heard a rumour that Major General Msimang is our new Chief of the Air Force.
Can anyone confirm?

Well, Gagiano does retire at the end of September, so a new CAF wef October would make sense.

However, it may be more complicated. We may see a new 'interim' CAF in October, then another 'permanent' CAF after that.

Who was the guy that wrote off the Rooivalk helicopter? Wasn't it Msimang?

Soon the Oryx will be replaced by Mi 8's and Rooivalk by Mi 35's.

Last one out, please turn off the lights.

Does anyone know much about him? More then what's in the news articles at least. What's he been like in leadership etc up until now? Just wondering where to for the SAAF with him in charge.

Congratulations to Gen Msimang. =D>

He is known as a man of integrity who will serve the organisation above his own interests. He sure does have his work cut out for him in keeping the SAAF operating at the level it is with the challenges it is facing.

It is to be expected that there will be some muted grumblings about how quickly he rose through the ranks, but I believe he will assuage those misgivings in his term in office.

It's shocking.

It would be bad enough to have a transport pilot as CAF, but to appoint a loose-wing pilot? Standards are dropping!

Bring back the Vlamgat-CAFs.

Cheetah Supporter: Wow I trust you wrote that tongue-in-cheek? Just look at the preceding comments to gauge the high calibre of the man from different writers. “I have nothing but respect for him”; “He is known as a man of integrity”. Also he is at least an experienced aviator of some sound pedigree albeit not truly Western in nature. (See News article –Helicopter Pilot takes over hot seat). The various Vlamgat jet-jockies who served our country so admirably are getting on in age – and it is a time of transformation so let them enjoy a well deserved retirement. My guess is that the Chopper Pilots are delighted to have their man in the hot seat. From my side….congratulations to the new CAF on his appointment. =D> But then again...you did write it tongue in cheek :D

Same this side, I have only also heard good things about him and his leadership skills. Funny how the old feelings of a fighter pilot must be the CAF is still going around.

I wish him all the best of luck for the job going forward in this times.
