Does anyone know why the cannon were removed some years back?

Hi Eugene, I read somewhere - either on this forum or on the VleisBroek page - cannon removed as she would not be able to fit into Hangar 4. DeanW can probably confirm this.

Thanks - seems a bit of a vlou excuse! Doesn't elevation or depression lift them out of the way enough?

One of the most mindless, soulless jobs was target towing for Shack gunnery practice. We'd flog along and the Shack would appear. Fire three round at the target and disappear Walvis Bay way. Eons later it would reappear - fire three rounds and head for Antarctica. It would keep this up all day. If the snoek weren't biting the queue to borrow the the navigating pencil sharpening knife to commit suicide from extreme boredom would grow long!

It was almost as bad towing a splash target for depth charge practice - for which they used small smoke bombs - and seemingly carried an endless number of the things. Up and down we'd go and they would practice all day long - I once counted something like fifty runs between dawn and knock-off time! And that was only when I wasn't in the engine room.

Hey gripen

i send you a link to download a program where you can convert video files to diffrent media files. I use it to download videos off you tube.

Should come handy in future.

Why would she want to convert an mp4 to another format? It is the bog industry standard video format for YouTube and is also the most compressed format of them all. Plenty of MP4 editors available.

Because it's a 20min, 1GB file, and in order to edit it using Windows Movie Maker, I need to change it to a .wmv file. I don't have fancy payware editing programs, so have to make do with the rather useless WMM.

Ah - I use VirtualDub for almost all my editing. All you have to do is get the codex for MP4s. Conversion I use WinFF.

And small and excellent. Cannot recommend either too higly. Along with ifoedit and vobedit there is very little one cannot do in the moving graphics department! WinFF will handle conversion from virtually anything to virtually anything. Also free. Virtualdub can sometime be a pain with MP4 if the codex does not load properly and the fact it only outputs avi is also irritating!

Dean - just been rewatching Death of Pelican 16. Were you at the arrival of 1716 at Ysterplaat from Waterkloof? I get a brief glimpse of a character with cameras that could be you ...
