I took the kids cloths shopping and found the "bargain bin" at the tills containing nail varnish. The dayglow orange caught my attention and at only R20 I took one to test for SAAF stuff.
It airbrushes OK if thinned , looks pretty damn close to SAAF T-6 and the best part is that it dries very fast, not like the humbrol that takes ages to cure.
It does have a satin look to it, but that is ok, a gloss coat can make it look glossy.

Actually did use it o n plastic, does not eat it, dries nice and smooth.
I tried thinninh it with turps, did not work, so I used MEK but think normal nail pollish remover will thin it nicely.

T, be very careful with MEK, I've worked in places in Canada where they once used it and it is banned by federal law, where as other dangerous chemicals are still used.

I would imagine lacquer thinners would work.
Good on you for trying nail varnish. :smt023

I only had turps and MEK so used what would clean the airbrush.
I know MEK is dangerous, but it is the active solvent in the paint I use for full size, so hope I will survive it.

Will do, I tried it on a canopy of a small RC heli, so the cover with my .3mm AB was not the best but you can see the result.

Thanks for the tip Theuns. I never tried airbrushing nail varnish but will give it a try. I have heard before that it is good for building and finishing car and truck kits. Plenty of metallic colours available. Also, I have seen it being used to make windows and coloured glass. Great if you are building a diorama and looking for ways to make stained glass.

I saw this dayglo orange nail varnish among a whole lot of other colours in big "bins" at a Dischem this morning, so it's probably widely available.

I'm sure your grand children will appreciate having an oupa around, and a healthy one.
Protect your lungs 100%, and keep it off your skin. There have been quite a number of technicians that have worked where I have worked, and cancer got them.
Sorry if I'm sounding anal.

Looking forward to seeing a picture of this.
The saturn look as you say, sounds good for lots of sun exposure before it losses it's colour.

Now you can airbrush your daughter and wife's finger and toe nails.

Interestingly the US EPA has removed it from the dangerous list, I am sure no chemicals are good, but then get woman to see this when they remove nail pollish with acsetone....wich is very close to MEK

Here it is sprayed over a white plastic. It looks allot lighter in the pic but close to SAAF glow in real life.
