Thanks Airfire. Did not see it fly (saw it fly at a previous IBSAMAR), but managed this shot into the sun.

I did touch it when it was in the hanger the other day, but no photos allowed. 8)

Is anyone else having problems uploading images onto this forum?
The "add image to post" thing no longer works for me for some time now

Works for me.

What error does it give?

Hi Dean, no error. It just doesn't attach to the post after being uploaded.

Post subject:  Smoky Indian destroyer mistaken for "Frigate on Fire"

Around 4pm Cape Talk reported a frigate on fire near Simon's Town. 'Twas nothing but INS Kolkata docking! Any idea why so much smoke???
Sorry I didn't have my camera with me in the car - it really looked awesome.

EXERCISE IBSAMAR VI 2018 INS KOLKATA WHITE SMOKE

White smoke is a natural byproduct during starting of powerful Gas Turbines in accordance with technical specifications. This is completely normal phenomenon which is usually not seen in Simon's Town where SA Naval ships use predominantly Diesel Engines. During the recent exercise, winds speeds in excess of 35 knots (more than 60 kmph) were experienced in the harbour which necessitated some ships to start additional gas turbines while approaching harbour to ensure safety of ship, its personnel and also other vessels in harbour. The white smoke may have been witnessed during such an operation.

Exercise IBSAMAR VI 2018 is a Multinational Maritime Exercise held between Brazil, India and the Republic of South Africa every two years. South Africa is the host and Brazil the lead nation for Ex IBSAMAR VI 2018 from 1-12 October 2018.

Naval Base Simon’s Town

Love how they phrased that to not embrace the Indians.

I must say, a number of us aboard AMATOLA discussed the smoke emanating from KOLKATA. It's pretty much a standard feature of many Russian/Ukrainian engines.
