So Defenceweb confirmed today that it was a German Naval vessel that fired the shots.

I get the point that SA military should have secured the area. I would also like to know how far off the actual target, the fishing vessel was. Surely the navy ships would have been informed of what area the target would be in?

Makes me rather concerned that the Germans would be quite reluctant to perform live firing excercises with the SANDF, in SA again.

For some live firing pics, check these out. :smt023

Sad that the photographers and authors of some of these articles, still get names of vessels and aircraft wrong #-o

Yes, I just read all the comments posted on DefenceWeb regarding this incident. It also confirms what our esteemed Web Master has been saying - it was the Germans!

Off topic: It will serve the German Navy (military) well if they applied their trigger-happy attitude to real life challenges such as the recent and ongoing conflicts in the Middle East for example. Their contribution to the shooting side of things, where soldiers bleed and die, was and is zero. Firing on a bona-fide fishing vessel does not wash with me.

Rant over - back to topic. :smt023

I found this article which reveals some relatively sad news about one of our 'regular' visitors.
If I can remember correctly, we knew she was due to be decommissioned.
Looks like she she will be meeting her final resting place soon

Ironically, I also came across an article that involves one or two of our other 'regular' visitors...
