Today in Table Bay I spotted a ship that looked so familiar. Turns out to be the sister ship to the old SAS Outeniqua. This is the IVAN PAPANIN built in 1990 yard number 6001. In 1991 the ALEKSANDR SLEDZUK yard number 6002 was built which later became the SAS Outeniqua.

She's a regular visitor here in Cape Town. They almost lost this ship at sea, but managed to save her a couple of months ago. She's been at anchor for close to a month now. Costs probably too high for her to be alongside with no business coming her way

If only she and her crew knew the affect she has on us that miss OTQ.

Russian Frigate ‘Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Navy Gorshkov’ (Pennant Number 454) arrived in Cape Town yesterday.

Russian tanker Kama arriving in Table Bay Harbour, Cape Town, this morning.

She is supporting the frigate Admiral Gorshkov which will participate in Exercise Mosi II, the maritime exercise between South Africa, China and Russia next week off the east coast of South Africa.

That's the ship armed with Zircon (Циркон) missiles! I believe that a live firing of the Zircon against a scrapped target ship is going to be performed during MOSI II

Negative, no live missile firings will be conducted during Ex Mosi II.

When the rumour first surfaced, I stated that there would be no missile firings, then TASS put out an official release stating that there will be a missile firing!

The SANDF has subsequently confirmed that there will be no missile firing.

Well that confirms that my operating hypothesis that "all news is fake news" is fundamentally correct. We might know for sure after the fact, but even that is doubtful.
