Many years ago when the South African aviation industry was entering into cooperative ventures with Russia, I was given a Sukhoi technical brochure to decipher and translate. So armed with a Russian dictionary I effectively learnt a few words and the Cyrillic alphabet. So I often amuse myself by reading Russian and it's amazing how much I can understand merely by sounding out the phonemes. The banner on the Gangplank to the Gorshkov in the video reads:
"фрегат 1 ранга << АДМИРАЛ ФЛОТА СОВЕТСЛКОГО СОЮЗА ГОРЖКОВ >>"
which phonetically reads :
fregat 1 ranga << ADMIRAL FLOTA SOVETSKOGO SOYUZA GORSHKOV >>
No translation needed. It's self evident phonetically.
It is also interesting, that since my nephew married a Polish lass, I often read out to her the labels of Russian products on supermarket shelfs. She can't read Russian but when sounded out loud it makes perfect sense to her if not to me.
