We will watch Oosterland, I think the vessel in front sank in the last couple of weeks, when are the DAFF going to do something about it, I think there are 14 sunken wrecks in the harbour.

Looks like Bressay Bank is next for the chop, and with the crane that has arrived with metal rubbish skips on the quay it should not take to long!

Bressay Bank should have been cut up 30 years ago. Its a pile of rust with no hope of salvation.

Assume the Oosterland is next for the chop or she may linger on double banked on the pilot boat.

Thanks for the picture update of the last days of the Rijger, RICHARDG - a sad sight, but nevertheless great that it was recorded.

If I correctly understand the page linked to below, the Bressay Bank's original name was 'Bressay Bank' Built by Northern in Gdansk in 1960, she went through three other names before reverting back to the original name when under Ken Evans's ownership. So she's 55 years old at present.

South Easter really pumping today, hope it goes before next weeks Cycle Race, Bressay Bank activity this week, crane went on about Tuesday, maybe took engine out as ship is riding higher. Oil tanks arrived along side and a lot of wood was on deck, some of it seems to have gone over the side. NSRI were also out in the wind as well.

Bressay Bank is still being off loaded, another oil tank from SA Metals arrived when I was there, it looks like a new chain has appeared on the bow, maybe she is going to be towed away. I didn't do my 5.30 am cycle daily trip last week due to bike problems but saw Oosterland had been moved, now in the same place where she was for work in the 1990s

All of the Circle fleet were rafted together, Calypso did pull ahead to load day trippers

Maybe the Dept of Ag are clamping down on mooring fees, it might get rid of some of the wrecks!

I have been wondering about mooring fees with all those wrecks, and sinking of a moored wreck.
Mooring fees fall under Department of Agriculture?
I would never have thought.

Probably because Hout Bay harbour is basically used only by fishing boats so putting it under the authority of the Fisheries department makes sense (at some level).

There is a big push at the moment to rid the various fishery harbours, such as Hout Bay, Saldanha, etc, of old and sunken vessels. It has now reached the stage whereby there are very few mooring positions available for the working boats!

Should make for good targets for the SAN and excercises! :D

Pity our budget won't allow for it.
Gone are the days of excercise Red Lion

As per Doug's post & photos in the "Seen In The Bay" thread, the Bressay Bank arrived under tow at Simonstown this morning (19th). Looks like she is indeed headed for the Deep Six, courtesy of Exercise Good Hope VI.
