I took that photo around 17h30 yesterday and the Navy tug left just after that. I first saw it in the morning so it had been there all day. Seems the French man may have thought he was on the other side on the peninsula and not in false bay. It is on Sunrise beach direcly in front of the life saving club.

From your link:
Quote:
A tow-line was rigged to the yacht and the NSRI Simonstown rescue craft Spirit of Safmarine III attempted to pull the yacht back out to sea but the yacht, hard aground, was not able to be pulled out to sea and through language interpretation assistance from the French Consulate, who responded to the scene to assist the NSRI with language interpretation, the owner will most likely negotiate for a salvage company to carry out a salvage operation.
Looks like it might be there for a while then ...

Very good :) Appears similar to HMNZS Endeavour, also a fleet replenishment vessel: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMNZS_Endeavour_(A11)

Ja, quite similar. Just comparing pics of the two.

PS Could you resize your pics to 800 x 600 pixels and 72 DPI? The one you've posted is 1.62MB!

Sorry, I realised this afterwards. I'd linked to it from Wiki... Instead I've linked to an article (and smaller image) of the ship. [Lazy]

Did someone remove my link? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMNZS_Endeavour_%28A11%29

Seems the French are in town. According to ports.co.za FS La Rieuse of the French Navy Docked at Salisbury Island. She is based at Reunion

Pic from wiki.

I also saw twoUH-1 Hueys come past. One was painted in dark grey with what looked like 'Marine' painted on it and the other was completly white. I know the French dont use them and I dont see any other naval ships in the harbour. The other explanation could be that some rich oke bought them and took them for a test flight.

Thurs evening at dusk, one of our subs came right inshore, sub-surface, circled in the bay, and then headed back out to sea to surface and return to base as it was getting dark.
Photos are really grainy in the fading light, but capture something of the delight of seeing one of our boats in action.
Spot the periscope!!
