Hi Everybody
I have read on the Strike Craft Facebook page this morning that Eugene Griessel crossed the bar on 27 February 2019.
He was part of the original boat 2 crew and at one time a highly knowledgeable and regular contributor to this forum.
May he Rest in Peace.

That is very sad news. I tried to get hold of him a few years ago when he became quiet on this forum, but without success.

Thoughts are with his sister and family. RIP.

So sad, Eugene taught me some of our naval history that you won't find in books and journals.

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;

For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.

Seconded. He was informative, intelligent and knew about a broad spectrum of Naval matters. His knowledge on the SA Navy of yesteryear was second to none. He had wit and candour and did not suffer idiots. Fair winds!

Thoroughly enjoyed his posts and correspondence offline.

Extremely knowledgeable and the embodiment of a "crusty old sea dog". Rest in peace Eugene and thank you for your valuable contribution to the forum over the years.

Sad news indeed :(
May he be remembered well and with fondness! 8)
I certainly enjoyed his posts a lot as my knowledge of naval matters is very limited.
