Today, 365 years ago, Jan van Riebeeck, representing the Dutch east Indian company "Die Here Sewentien", landed in the Cape of storms. Thus starting a chain of events, that lead to what is today known as South Africa. The significance of this day in South African history, politics aside, is undeniable, yet no longer seen as that, many people forget. As far as I'm concerned, this day should still be remembered. The contribution and sacrifices made by so many, to the establishment of the modern and well developed country we still have today, started inadvertently, on the 6th of April 1652.
