Without reading any of the references, I'd say we will survive it by ignoring it. It's probably garbage -most hysterical stuff is. Ah - and the page says "pole shift which may occur on Sept 26th,2011". I guess they forgot to change that when their predicted catastrophe did not happen on schedule.

But if it is valid, why panic? If it's going to kill everyone, that's just one of those "shit happens" things.

Ditto, CheetahSupporter. :!:
End-Of-The-World predictions have been going on since time immemorial. If it happens, it happens. Nothing we can do about it.

Some people take silly movies far too seriously. The whole thing is a conglomerate of myth, misinterpreted history and misunderstood real astronomy. Just one small example of a logical inconsistency - if this "death star" is really about a quarter AU from earth, how can it be behind the sun?

Obviously one of Warhol's pals - or maybe even Warhol himself. BTW Elenin disintegrated months ago and the debris is now long past the earth and heading off into deep space.

ISTR there was a nutcase by that nym who used to infest sci.military.naval amongst other usenet boards, maybe the same creature? The kookiness seems similar.

Great quote Dean - and great musical selection.

I was going to add "you haven't shown signs of good taste previously", but I thought that could be considered impolite so I won't put that down.

Well preparations got underway today for the great event. While downing a few cans of best bitter, I watched my wife dig our air raid shelter. I will be stocking up on plenty of ales and I think I should pop out to get a couple of cases of 'Give that man a ....' whiskey.
Cheers

Mmm - obviously not a very big shelter. You are never going to be able to store enough whiskey in that to survive something as cataclysmic as the end of the world.

Do I detect a Milligan fan hereabouts, methinks?

Yeah Spike Milligan, one of my all time favourites.

Went and dug out my recording of his being invited to participate in world war two - the one where he and his father watch his mother digging the air raid shelter - just for old times sake! And my all time favourrite "putting up a tent".

I remember that, wish I had recordings of the Goon show. Here's a quote of his for you Eugene:

"A sure cure for seasickness is to sit under a tree."

Cheers Mac

I have 115 goonshows on mp3 - there used to be a site where you could download them, maybe it's still there? And a couple of dozen vinyls (bought cheap as a bundle at a church bazaar many years ago! And the Jeremy Taylor & Spike Milligan vinyls. Also have the video of the very last goon show. Not to mention just about everything Spike wrote. I am not obsessed, honestly!

The site where you can download goon shows still exists but it seems the price has gone up quite a bit! http://www.thegoonshow.net/ if you are interested. Quality was not too good - most seemed to have come off vinyl.
